Strengthening Families Program-Johnson County Mental Health
The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is a family skill building program found to significantly improve parenting skills and family relationships, reduce problem behaviors, delinquency and alcohol and drug abuse in children and to improve social competencies in school performance.
A family skill building curriculum that:
- Teaches parenting, life & family skills
- Includes a family meal each week
- Incorporates informal family practice time
- Lasts 12 weeks

Johnson County Mental Health Center
Johnson County Mental Health Center (JCMHC) provides a full range of mental health services to youth and families, including outpatient therapy, crisis intervention, case management, and substance-use treatment. JCMHC is the primary public mental health provider for Johnson County residents. Families can access services by calling the main line during business hours or the 24/7 crisis line at 913-268-0156 for immediate support. Services are available regardless of income, and JCMHC can help coordinate care across school and community systems. If you need assistance connecting with Johnson County Mental Health, contact your school counselor for support.

The United Way of Greater Kansas City connects families with a wide range of local resources, including housing support, food assistance, utility help, mental health services, and more. Dial 2-1-1 or visit their website to get connected with services 24 hours a day. This is a valuable resource if you're not sure where to start or are navigating multiple challenges. United Way’s trained staff can help you identify programs that match your needs and location.

Johnson County Alliance on Mental Health
The Johnson County Alliance on Mental Health is a collaborative group focused on improving mental health services and supports across the county. While not a direct service provider, the Alliance brings together schools, mental health agencies, hospitals, law enforcement, and advocacy organizations to coordinate efforts and advocate for change. Families and community members can use the Alliance’s resources to learn about local initiatives, participate in events and support services, or find out how systems work together to support youth mental health.

Kansas Mobile Crisis Helpline
The Kansas Mobile Crisis Helpline offers free, confidential support 24/7 for youth experiencing a behavioral or mental health crisis. Call 1-833-441-2240 to reach trained mental health professionals who can assess the situation and dispatch a mobile response team if needed. This service is available to all Kansas families and is designed to de-escalate crises and connect families to ongoing care without needing to go to the emergency room or involve law enforcement unless necessary.

Supporting LGBTQ Students within Our Community
Christine Fuhrman (LSCSW, LCSW) and Brandon Mock (ATR-BC, LPC, LCMFT) of KidsTLC will be the presenters for our next seminar. Their presentation is designed to provide parents and friends supportive talking points using the PACE Model, an easy, practical model to supporting all students. The presentation will also highlight community resources available to students, parents, and supportive adults and friends.

Vaping: Information for Parents
Please join us for the opportunity to learn about vaping, the health hazards related to vaping, and what are the signs that your child may be vaping. Our guest speakers for the evening will be:
- Kevin Kufeldt, LCPC, LCAC, Program Manager at the Adolescent Center for Treatment who will share about the health hazards and the signs of use.
- School Resource Officer Jamie Schmidt, from the Olathe Police Department who will discuss her observations on vaping and the potential associated legal consequences.
- Don Hymer, Assistant District Attorney for Johnson County will join Officer Schmidt in sharing the potential associated legal consequences.
- Tim Brady, Director of Athletics and Activities of the Olathe Public Schools will share with parents ASPIRE, an evidence-based intervention for tobacco cessation.
- Student Health Seminar The discussion following the presentations will be moderated by Sharon Morris, Olathe Public Schools Director of Health Services, and Dr. Jim McMullen, Assistant Superintendent of the Olathe Public Schools.
