Healthcare Sciences Program Overview

The Healthcare Science program prepares students who desire to enter the healthcare field as a career. The Healthcare Science courses offered provide students with foundational knowledge, information about healthcare careers, and an opportunity to practice skills through coursework and/or student organizations.
Certifications to be earned:
- Basic Life Support
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10
- Certified Nurse Aide
- Nutrition Assistant
- Optional:
- Pharmacy Technician (optional)
- Phlebotomy Technician (must be 18 years old by fall)
College credit to be earned:
- Medical Terminology at Johnson County Community College, three hours
- Certified Nurse Assistant at Johnson County Community College, five hours
- Health Information Technology at Johnson County Community College, two hours
- OSHA 10 at Flint Hills, one hour
Students must be in good standing and demonstrate professionalism, attendance and 3.0 GPA in English.
Career and Technical Student Organizations
Each student is encouraged to become a chapter member, participate in competitions, attend conferences, become officers and work towards scholarships offered by these organizations.
SkillsUSA — This student-led organization is a partnership between education and industry. It provides an opportunity for students to build a foundation for career and life success, allowing students to explore, develop and build on their education and chosen path or industry.
HOSA (Future Healthcare Professionals) — The mission of HOSA is to empower future health professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration and experience.
