Cross-Country
-
Cross-country is open to all sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. Sixth graders and seventh graders run a one-mile race over grassy terrain and eighth graders run a two-mile race in the meets. Cross-country is a fun, co-ed, short season and a great way to get involved at school and make some friends.
Each participant must have a current physical (one dated after May 1) before they can participate. A concussion form, a substance abuse policy form, and a transportation form need to be on file before athletes can participate in a meet. These forms are located on our website under general information on the athletics tab or you can pick them up in the front office at SFT.
Practice will be Monday through Friday from 3:15-4:15 p.m. The first day of practice is Monday, Aug. 19. There will be an informational meeting during the school day for students that are interested in participating. Cross-country is not a try-out sport. Students who have a physical on file with the nurse and wish to participate can come to practice on the 16th. They will be added to the team roster.
The team will ride the bus to and from away meets. If an athlete's guardian wishes to take them home from the meet, that athlete should bring all their items with them and let the coaches know not to look for them on the return trip on the bus. The coaches also need to see the athlete with their guardian at the meet.
If an athlete needs to miss a practice or a meet due to a scheduling conflict, the athlete or athlete's guardian needs to let the coaches know. If they miss a meet, they need to let the coaches know the day before the meet. Athletes must attend at least eight of the 15 practices to be eligible to participate in a meet.
All physical forms, concussion forms, and substance abuse forms need to be completed and submitted to the school nurse no later than Monday, Aug. 19. Students will not be able to participate without the physical forms completed. The physical must be dated after May 1.
Questions? Please email the school nurse.
