ATTENTION PARENTS OF CURRENT 6TH GRADERS
Notices for immunization needed for current 6th graders have been mailed home. Vaccines required for incoming 7th graders are Tdap and meningococcal A (Menactra/Menveo). These are routinely administered at 11-year-old physicals. Please provide documentation of administration by email to sdanderson@olatheschools.org, fax to 913-780-7216, or in person BEFORE Monday, August 12th.
A reminder email will be sent out to incoming 7th graders in July before school starts to those parents whose students need to be vaccinated. Vaccines are available at your physician’s office (ask for a vaccine appointment, there will be no copay), walk-in-clinics including Health Partnership Clinic (sliding scale payments available), CVS, Walgreens, Target, Walmart, and the Johnson County Health Department.
There will be a Summer Vaccine Clinic for 7th and 11th graders only in June, July, and August in Olathe and Mission, KS. See attached flyer. No one is turned away for inability to pay.
MEDICATIONS IN THE NURSE’S OFFICE
If your student has medication in the nurse’s office, Nurse Anderson will send the bottle of medication home with your student on Tuesday, May 21st. If you would like to make other arrangements, please contact Nurse Anderson at sdanderson@olatheschools.org
OVER-THE-COUNTER MEDICATIONS
Students may carry over-the-counter medications, such as non-prescription pain relievers, cold or allergy medicine, and antibiotics with the following requirements:
- Must be in the original, marked container
- Never distributed to another student
Please remember if your student requires prescription medication at school, an annual physician note is required EACH SCHOOL YEAR, dated after May 1st. Students may self-carry inhalers, epi-pens, and some prescription medications that are not controlled substances. Controlled substances such as ADHD medication, medications for emotional or behavior disorders, or any severe health issues must be administered by the nurse and kept in the health office. Medications will NOT be administered without a doctor’s order. Prescription bottle labels are not accepted as orders. Medication Policy
