Emergency Medications

  • According to our district procedures related to emergency medication for allergies:

    • Parents whose children indicate a positive history of severe allergic reactions are encouraged to discuss with their physician the need for medication at school.
    • If medication is indicated, the parents are to provide the physician order(s) and medication(s) to the school nurse.
    • Upon receiving the order(s) and medication(s), the school nurse will train other staff members in anticipation of the need for emergency medication to be administered on a field trip or in the absence of a school nurse.
    • Note: Our medication policy also makes provision for student self-administration of emergency medication after a parent, physician, and school nurse review. We strongly recommend the self-administration option for students in grades 6 through 12, particularly if they are involved in sports or other before and after school activities. If interested, please discuss this further with Nurse Anderson.
