Mark earned his business degree from Emporia State University where he was active in the Sigma Pi Fraternity. He is currently the President of Sigma Pi Alumni Association where he serves as a leader and mentor for college students. After graduating he started an Olathe-based company that manufactures foundation repair devices. A quadriplegic since a swimming accident in 2004, Mark accepted a position with Olathe’s Persons with Disabilities Advisory Board in 2006. He also helped with Push America’s Journey of Hope, a national bicycle riding outreach project that focuses on enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities. The group now stops in Olathe on its yearly ride from the West Coast to Washington, D.C. The group honored Mark’s hard work at its 2010 end-of-tour dinner. Mark established a 501c3 foundation, Make a Splash Inc., which helps recently injured people adjust to life in a wheelchair. In addition, he speaks with local students about the importance of making good choices in their daily lives.
