Edward "Eddie" Hayes - Honored in 2025

    Ed was involved with drama and industrial arts in high school. He followed in his family’s footsteps being a fourth-generation law enforcement officer and retired as captain after 29 years of service. He worked for three years as a federal agent with the Justice Department’s Drug Enforcement Agency in western Missouri and for seven years did undercover investigations in narcotics, stolen properties and criminal investigations. Ed headed the Johnson County Sheriff's Officer Underwater Search and Rescue team. Since retirement, Ed has been a member of the Chaffee County Colorado Search and Rescue team serving as a rescue pilot and also has been a member of the National Association for Search and Rescue. Additional memberships include Sons of the American Legion, Kansas Peace Officers and the Kansas Sheriff’s Association. Ed has authored a book, “Nice Pinch,” about law enforcement history. As a senior contributor for the “Johnson’s County Gazette,” he often highlights former military and law enforcement personnel of which his “Gazette” column is mainly about.
