N. William "Bill" Hines - Honored in 2025

    Bill graduated from John P. St. John High School in 1954 where he participated in basketball, tennis, Student Council and was the editor of the Eagle student paper. During those years he received the Scrivner Journalism trophy. He graduated from Baker University, where he was in the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, participated in sports and served on the yearbook staff. Bill went on to attend the University of Kansas Law School and was ranked first in his class, clerked for the justice of the United States 10th Circuit Court of Appeals and served as associate editor of the “Kansas Law Review.” His academic record led to a year at Harvard Law School where he was a graduate teaching fellow. After college, Bill was an assistant professor at the University of Iowa Law School and director of the Agricultural Law Clinic, and held visiting faculty positions around the country. He was dean of the Iowa Law School for 28 years, which is the longest serving dean of a college in the history of the university. Today, Bill teaches part time and is active in the Iowa City community.
